Da'Rick Rogers has hit a couple pot holes in his college football career: he committed to Georgia, but went back on that commitment and drew the wrath of the Bulldog fan base. He ended up at rival Tennessee, where he was the "plum of the recruiting class" and also charged with "disorderly conduct and resisting arrest in connection with a brawl that left an off-duty police officer unconscious and bloodied in the street." Some funny pictures of Da'Rick popped up on various disreputable websites where it looked like a girl might have been biting him, and in which he was undoubtedly drinking some off-brand Mike's Hard Lemonade.
This summer the all-SEC Rogers was suspended "after multiple violations of the school's substance-abuse policy for athletes." He transfered to Tennessee Tech (which plays in Cookeville), and thus, the trolling you see above from pugnacious UT fans. Now you're all caught up.
Tonight, Da'Rick, playing in a league that's objectively beneath his skill level, is dominating:
A bit later:
Tennessee Tech is Ohio Valley Conference team, meaning they're in the FCS (formerly known at Division I-AA). The FCS record for receptions is 24 (Jerry Rice is one of two to have reached that mark, at Mississipi Valley State in 1983). The FCS record for receiving yards is 376.
Yep! We'll keep you updated. Oh, and UT is tied with Akron at the half.
UPDATE (9:37): You can watch. It's close, in the fourth.
UPDATE (9:53): Overtime! But did we jinx Da'Rick? The extremely pro-Southeast Missouri announcers on this feed say he looks "tired." Stats forthcoming.
UPDATE (10:03): Double overtime! The teams exchanged TDs. What have I gotten myself into? This feed is about 20 seconds behind its audio. Da'Rick Rogers hasn't had a catch since I started watching. Now I see what UT fans were talking about.
UPDATE (10:10): Yeah, no. Game over, missed FG from Tennessee Tech to give the Red Hawks the victory, 41-38. Tech used Da'Rick as a decoy towards the end, and thus lost. Force it in if you have to! He had ten billion yards receiving in the first half! Jesus. I'll throw in an updated stat line if I ever find one.
UPDATE (10:22): 18 receptions for 303 yards, 2 TDs. I don't like to armchair analyze, but if you don't target Da'Rick Rogers on every play, you lose by a field goal in overtime. Another lesson learned. Pic via.
