GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
Berkshire Hills Music Academy, a post-secondary school serving people 18 and older with learning and intellectual disabilities, is looking for a strong leader to fill the position of Assistant Head of School.
The Assistant Head of School serves as the educational leader to provide the highest quality education for students with Autism spectrum disorder, Aspergers syndrome, PDD-NOS, blindness and visual impairments, Williams syndrome, and Down syndrome. This position manages the Academy programs in accordance with the vision and mission set forth by the Board of Trustees. The Program Manager supervises five Departmental Directors for the Two-year Certificate Program and Extended Learning Community (for graduates of the Certificate Program). The Assistant Head of School nurtures all members of the school staff, communicates effectively with parents and community, and represents the program to accrediting and licensing authorities.
The Assistant Head of School reports to the Executive Director.
REQUIREMENTS
Formal training in music or performing arts, music therapy preferred
5 years of experience working with people diagnosed with similar disabilities as those who we serve in an educational, vocational and residential setting
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Certification in Administration preferred (School Principal, Assistant School Principal, Assistant Head of Private school, Program Manager, Program Director, SPED Administrator, etc.)
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Participate in strategic planning and overall program development
Establish and implement a strategic plan and goals and objectives for each department
Manage day-to-day operations: hiring, supervising, and staff evaluation
Establish a master schedule for students, staff, and classrooms (both before and after school dorm hours)
Evaluate lesson plans and observe classes on regular basis to support life skills, social skills, vocational, and music departments and programs
Write policies and procedures relative to curriculum
Ensure a sequential learning experience for students consistent with the Academys philosophy, mission, and instructional goals
Develop a comprehensive program of student assessment
Support budgetary oversight
Licensing and accreditations responsibilities
Oversee trainings required by licensing agencies
Maintain visibility with students, teachers, parents, and Board
Enforce school policies
Communicate regularly with parents
Conduct staff, student, and parent orientations
Support admission and marketing efforts
