Bharti Airtel to launch 4G services in India

Bharti Airtel is likely to become the first company to deploy a commercial high-speed wireless broadband service in India.

Bharti Airtel is likely to become the first company to deploy a commercial high-speed wireless broadband service in India.

Sources suggest that Airtel, which paid Rs 3,314 crores for fourth generation, or 4G, wireless spectrum in the four circles of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Punjab and Kolkata will unveil the service in the eastern metro on Tuesday.

Chinese telecom equipment maker ZTE is believed to have set up Bharti's Kolkata network.

Bharti is expected to launch broadband wireless access (BWA) services in three other circles soon.

This is even as Reliance Industries , which acquired nationwide BWA spectrum in 2010, is also believed to be preparing for deploying in some circles soon.
